22th August 2010
So the highlight news this blog is I have been offered a job!!! WOOP WOOP I had an interview on the 20th with Grouse Mountain Snow School Director Toby Bartlett at 6am. The time was real early. I got up at like 5.50pm in preparation but fell back asleep until he called again at 6.15am and woke me up! I could not believe I fell back asleep so for the first part of the interview I was like ½ asleep still. It felt like such a bad interview, there was one question I couldn’t even answer, describe a time where you have received really bad customer service...I was actually thinking “this should be easy but I cannot actually think of an example”. I told him I couldn’t think of an answer and just came up with examples of bad customer service. I must have said something right, because 2 days later I check my mail in the morning and bang I got the job.
The dilemma now is, there are about 15 other applications for other mountains I would rather work at and I am waiting for responses from Japan too, but I need to get back to Toby at Grouse soon. The best thing about the offer @ Grouse is its Sponsored so I do not need a working holiday visa. I am having a think and will let you know how it goes.
I told some of the guys at Snow school today and made people aware on facebook and it seems like there will be lots of people in Van from the snowboarding community this winter. Tom Summerville is going for Mt Seymour, Chloe is keen for Grouse and Laura from my course maybe having an interview with Grouse too so the cool thing is i could go and probably have people to live with in Van city, and it would be a surreal experience living in a city working in a mountain instead of in a little town! We shall see!
This weekend I havent been up to much apart from working and going to the gym. I have been super tired recently so just been keen to relax and not really go out. Socially all I have done is go to the staff night, it was super fun! Me and Ollie Smith sucked ass when it came to the pool but it was mainly down to the underhanded tactics by Mathieu and Tom S. They snookered me on the black and if you foul on the black in NZ rules you loose the game which SUCKS! So we got knocked out of the first round of the pool tournament. Grant and Robin ended up winning, thanks to some good shots from Robin, but Grant with his underhanded, unsporting tactics of putting people off when they are taking there shots, also helped them lots too. There was some good free food, calamari and pizza – good times! More memorably I met a girl called Courtney Anne – but her nickname was Koo too! It was funny! She was pretty damn cute too! I was introduced to her by Jake I think they are kind of an item or something but we hung out a little during the night and it was fun! We had an epic game of giant jenga, the tower actually got bigger than the both of us and we beat jenga, we got to the point where we couldn’t take off anymore blocks without it definitely falling. Good times! It was a real fun night!!
Training and riding is going ok its very much the same as most weeks just working real hard on our training and our riding. The concentration level is high and its mentally challenging. Its been physically challenging coupling the training with the intense gym programme Robin and I are on for sure!
I am trying to think about what else has been going on, but there isn’t much else!!
Peace and love people
