So its been a week and a few little things have happened that are worth updating the world on...New Zealand is becoming more and more epic, I am really enjoying my time here, I find the days flying by because I am having such a good time its been a bit of a turnaround from when I first got here for sure. I find I am getting along better and better with people in and out of snow school and am meeting more people learning more.
So I wrote my blog last Saturday, I think its probably because I got released early from work, last weekend wasn’t the most amazing working weekend – in fact I’m not entirely sure I even worked...anyway moving on – this week started well, we trained on Monday and worked on our 360’s we finally have some smaller jumps in the park, I was already frontside 360’ing however I wasn’t doing it correctly so it was really good to work on proper take off, rotational and landing technique. It was fun – I definitely had the frontside spins down. We moved onto backside spins and I pretty much struggled. I have never done a backside 360 off a jump before and really struggled. It might be something mental but I didnt managed to get it down – it sucked but hopefully with more practise I can make it happen.
Tuesday was a sweet powder day!! I rode with Chris we had suucch a good time!! The powder was soo much fun and it was another epic pow day at Mount Ruapehu! We had a little bit of park fun too and that was great! It was pimps and ho’s night at the staff night so I work a bikini (over a t shirt) and went out with everyone. It was a pretty fun night I looked ridiculous!
The rest of the week including today I have been working at the hill and we havent been training. Basically there were about 10-15 instructors out on courses, so we were called into help. I was a ski instructor from Weds – Friday and my lessons initially were poor, but with more confidence from Thursday through to Friday I really had a good time teaching skiing and its definitely got me thinking about doing my Ski Level 1 over here so I am more marketable to snow schools in the future, and also to ensure my ski lessons are too standard. Worried I am not teaching it right but I am definitely getting results and am employing everything I was trained to teach from Kyle getting tips along the way from other instructors.
Other nights out have included Hannah’s birthday which also included the celebratory drinks for all the ski guys passing their level 1!! It was great to see all the Ski Rookies and the TSI guys getting their first of many certifications!! Stoked for them for sure. I remember my first cert and how nervous I was doing it and taking it. It was such a relief to pass so I know how they felt. We had a lovely dinner and Hannah looked like she was having a thoroughly good birthday! All about the good times! I met a few good dudes that night one included Kelly Grant (I think) he was down in Turoa shadowing the level 1 snowboarding evaluations. Top guy! Hoping he comes down again so we can shred because he seems like a bit of a ripper. On Friday after being released from work I managed to get a jib session down with him and we had fun! Great guy to ride with.
On Friday the Level 1 Snowboarders finished and again all the Rookies passed as well as Tony Hill!! We went out in the evening to celebrate but it wasn’t huge!!
Other news includes Josh is down from the UK to visit me for 3 weeks and hopefully he will settle in quickly and get riding!! AND THE MAJOR NEWS is
I GOT THE JOB IN NISKEO JAPAN!!! F*CK YES! I have accepted and unfortunately have to turn down Grouse – VERY EXCITED!
PEACE AND LOVE PEOPLE!!
